Warhound has raised USD 200 million from investors including Sequoia, 8VC, and In-Q-Tel to clone and gene-edit military dogs. The funding will enable the company to utilize technology from Anduril, focusing on creating genetically edited dogs for military purposes. The project's leaders include Ben Lamm of Colossal Biosciences and Palmer Luckey, who have ambitious plans for this innovative military application.
The funding round, which is reported to value Warhound at $1.2 billion, aims to clone dogs based on genetic edits from German shepherds and Belgian Malinois. Anduril’s contributions will include protective vests and sensors. The first puppies are projected to be available early next year, and the initial trained animals are expected to be in service within two years.
With this significant investment, Warhound is poised to make advancements in military technology, prompting discussions about the ethical considerations and regulatory implications of such genetic modification.
