Vitalthings has introduced a ceiling-mounted radar called Guardian Fall that detects patient falls and can alert staff before falls occur. The device builds on the company’s expertise in radar-based medical equipment and is designed to combine movement data from the falls sensor with other health sensors to provide more intelligent, preventive notifications.
The company already offers the contactless monitoring platform Guardian M10, which can track breathing without body-worn sensors and has received MDR class 2b approval. Managing director Bård Benum says the firm is now exploring opportunities to bring in a strategic partner while expanding to other countries. Vitalthings highlights the potential to prevent costly fall-related injuries; in Norway in 2019, health expenditures linked to falls were reported at NOK 14.5 billion, making falls the second-most costly health condition after dementia.
