Safina de Klerk has resigned with immediate effect as vice president of NITO, the Norwegian organisation for engineers and technologists. She had held the elected position since 2024. In explaining her decision, de Klerk said she had experienced restrictions on her room to act as vice president during her work with president Kjetil Lein.

De Klerk described the reasons for her resignation in a LinkedIn post. She told Shifter she had no further comment beyond the document shared there. Her decision followed two years in the role, and she said she continued to believe in NITO as an organisation despite the disagreement over the presidency.

Lein told Shifter he regretted de Klerk's departure. He said they had held constructive discussions but differed on how the president and vice president should represent NITO. The organisation's board was due to meet to decide the process following her resignation.
