A Sifted analysis reported by Shifter finds university spinoffs across Europe raised a combined NOK 53 billion. Companies connected to Finland’s Aalto University are listed third, with NOK 5.5 billion linked to its spinouts.
Sifted says Aalto raised more than €0.5 billion for its spinoffs in the first six months of 2026, and highlights investor focus on AI, quantum and semiconductor research emerging from universities. The report also notes no Norwegian education institutions appear in the top tier.
Sifted reports that British spinoff investor Northern Gritstone plans to open an office in San Francisco to attract U.S. capital. In Norway, Lace Lithography — spun out from the University of Bergen and founded by Professor Bodil Holst — is cited as one of the largest Norwegian fundraises in the past half-year; Holst told Bergens Tidende her atomic-wave lithography can print structures up to ten times smaller than current technology.
