The European Commission has launched a pilot initiative called the European Legal Gateway Office to promote the mobility of Indian ICT professionals, students and researchers to Europe. The pilot was presented in New Delhi in February 2026, with European Commission First Vice-President Henna Virkkunen taking part in the launch alongside India’s external affairs minister S. Jaishankar and ICMPD director general Susanne Raab.

The project is intended to provide reliable information about working, studying and researching in EU countries and to make it easier for European employers to meet Indian ICT specialists. Finland’s Work in Finland initiative is involved in discussions with employers and higher-education institutions about how the new model could respond to their skills needs. Organisers say the pilot will help broaden the pool of digital talent available to European companies and strengthen links between European employers and Indian ICT professionals.
