Gunnar Evensen, who led Get for 18 years through its sale to Danish TDC and later Telia, has launched an app called Sosialt intended to lower the barrier to arranging in-person meetings.
The app was developed by seven engineers at 99x in Sri Lanka and the project has been financed by Evensen’s investment company. Evensen says the initiative is driven by a desire to enable more meaningful human connections rather than to generate profit; he told Shifter in a podcast that “our company does not need to make money on this.” He also explained that the idea grew out of personal experience after he lost his wife and noticed how being alone changed the way he planned and kept appointments. Evensen involved his children in the work, noting the same challenge crosses generations, and described Sosialt as a tool to make it easier for people to take the initiative to meet.
